The Gentle Giant
Frank Landers would write of his friend John Hackleman; When I first met John I found him to be rough around the edges, but I would come to learn that John was just a soft gentle giant. John would invite me to the hospital one evening in Santa Maria, California, where he was working as an intern "Respiratory Therapist". I watched John handle these very old and frail people, who would die in the next few days. John Hacklemans outward body exterior might cause other Folks to run, but there in the Hospital under John's care, Hackleman with compassion and love for human nature, would handle these gentle soles with dignity and respect. The way they looked at John, and the things they said about him to me, were heart wrenching, this is the John Hackleman I know, a gentle giant. ~ Frank Landers.
