Power
From Martial Arts Wiki
Power – Is the effective application of Force in Motion, in order to produce a required outcome. Force of energy is the physical strength produced through acceleration of movement. The faster the hand travels from point A to point B, the more Speed that will be produced. With Speed comes greater Force and Power. Many Traditional hard Styles of martial arts will place great emphasis on the use of Power. They teach the use of Power in every strike, sacrificing Speed for greater Power. As Ed Parker so elegantly pointed out to his simple use of the analogies, in his book, Infinite Insights Into Kenpo Volume 4 PG. 157, “Do we have to use a hammer to pound a thumbtack into the wall? No. Slight pressure from this the thumb will do. Do we need a sledge hammer to pound a nail and possibly demolish the area surrounding it? No. A normal tap with a hammer will do. When we hunt wild game for food, do we use a 5 inch cannon? No, a rifle will do. In fact, a rifle had better be used if we intend to have any game left to eat”. The amount of Power used should be no more than that needed, to render the attacker incapable of attack, and no more.
