Seishindo (Seishin: 精神 せいしん mind; soul; heart; spirit; intention), (Do: 道 どう The Way) together translate into "Way of the Mind" which is the understanding of the conscious thought that goes into formulating an action as well as the subconscious understanding of how action can deceive us in battle. To achieve Seishindo you must find harmony between physical action, and compassion for those you face in battle. Physical fighting skill is only half of a students total development. Complete understanding of Concepts, Principles and Ideas of motion is the other half of a martial artist training. Without Seishindo, a student physical abilities, may become strong and powerful, but will always lack that completion needed to achieve harmony in their live.
In 1979 there was no uses of the name Seishindo or SeishinDo Karate in the USA martial arts community. Frank Argelander would travel to Japanese Town in Los Angeles California, and meet with an old gentleman who would translate for Argelander the meaning of "Way of the Mind" as; Seishindo. (Seishin: 精神 せいしん mind; soul; heart; spirit; intention), (Do: 道 どう The Way), together "Seishindo".
"Seishin", when joined together with "Do" making one word "Seishindo" translated into "Way of the Mind". When "Seishindo" is joined together with "Kenpo" 拳法 けんぽう Chinese art of self-defense, "Fist Law", it becomes a sophisticated form of self-protection encompassing advance concepts, principles and ideas of movements, Frank Argelander would refer to it as his developing art form, or Style.
Other styles using Seishindo
Over the years there has been several individuals who have used the name "Seishindo", or "SeishinDo Karate" for a name to represent their Style. These individuals are not part of the original concepts, principles and ideas that made up the core center of Argelanders teachings of Seishindo as set fourth in 1979 and listed in the Who's Who in American Martial Arts as "Frank Landers Seishindo Karate", 1984 edition.

(Note: The translation of "Way of the Mind" is one of many ways that "Seishindo" can be translated into. "Seishindo" has a very broad meaning and does not have one certain way it can be defined. Frank Argelander in 1979, wanted the specific meaning of "Way of the Mind" translated into a Japanese word, that could find harmony with his style of "Kenpo". After explaining to the old Japanese gentleman, that the word used to define "Way of the Mind" should embody the spirit or harmony between the Minds thoughts and physical action of the Kenpoist. Argelander explained that the name should express the power as well as the weakness of the greatest tool a martial artist possess, their Mind.)
Frank Argelanders humble apology to the art of ~ KARATE ~
Argelander, like many others would use the name Karate, because of it's general universal acceptance to represent all martial arts during the time period of 1970's and earlier. Ed Parker would originally name his new art Kenpo Karate, for the same reason.
