Speed
From Martial Arts Wiki
Speed – The measure or the rate of Motion through action. We find that by increasing acceleration of Motion, or shortening the duration of the strike, increased Force and Power are produced. Speed is a main ingredient of Seishindo Kenpo and it’s effectiveness in Motion. Although Speed takes precedence over Power, through Speed, more Power will be increased. To produce greater Speed, one must stay relaxed and tense only with impact, defining the shortest path in action, and producing Economy of Motion. There should be no hesitation in action from one move to another and increasing Speed through Continuity of Motion. Strikes that follow a Linear path must Round the Corners before starting the next path of action.
Although functioning as one, speed is made up in three categories:
A. Perceptive Speed: The act of perceiving danger or attack before it happens, then formulating the counter for the oncoming attack. Understanding of one's Environmental Awareness will help to sharpen the Senses, keeping the mind alert and aware of possible attack.
B. Mental Speed: Is the rate at which the mind processes the information and selects the Natural Weapons to be used to counter the attack. Development of Mental Speed can only come when the Seishindo Kenpoist understands all the Concepts, Principles, and Ideas of motion.
C. Physical Speed: Is the ability to rapidly move a Natural Weapon from one point to another. To increase Physical Speed movements must be practiced in the various Seishindo Kenpo self-defense techniques repetitively.
